RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. LAWRENCE.

(Before B. H. Carew, Esq., R.M. ) Monday, 21st Dkcbmbeb, 1874. The following applications were granted : — Susan Dewes for slaughtering license ; John Tanton for bagatelle license ; William Walker for bagatelle license; William Walker,, for permission to keep hia licensed houße open on the night of the Ist January, 1875 ; Samuel Henry for permission to keep hislicensedhouse open from 10 o'clock on the 28th, to 3 o'clock on the 29th inst ; Robert Coghill to keep his house open on the night of the 24th December ; John Morris to keep his house open on the night of the 28th ; John Smith Vial for a temporary license on the 26th and 28th December, granted till 8 p.m. of each day ; John Smith Vial to keep his house open ou the night of Ist January, to three o'clock on morning of 2nd, and to have music and dancing. The following was refused :— William Xavanagh for a temporary license on the 25th instant. Henry Vye r. James Middlemiss.— Claim of £6 3s 9d, balance due for the building of a stone wall. Mr. Q-ooday for plaintiff. Defendant resisted payment on the ground that the work was not properly done. The case was adjourned to give the parties an opportunity of eettling. Mark v. Best.-r-Cla.im. of £50, balance due on transfer of share in the Gabriel's G-ully Quartz Mining. Cqmpany (Registered.) Mr. M'Ooy,for plaintiff ; Mr. Copland for defendant. Judgment was given for the amount claimed £50, costs of Court 30s, one witness 10s, and professional costs £2 2s.
