DUNEDIN HORSE SHOW.
Whether the unfavorable weather prevented horses being shown that would otherwise have put in an appearance we do not know, but at any rate the number exhibited was smaller than usual. There were some very handsome thoroughbreds, ia excellent condition. Of course there was variety, but in the maiu the horses were of a very good stamp — clean in the limb, round-barrelled, tine heads, short-backed and long-quartered. Several of the heavy horses were splendid specimens — high-crusted, full-chested, wellcoupled, with short backs and muscular arms and thighs. They were all Clydesdale horses, a breed that appears to be preferred in Otago to lighter and more active animals. The wet uncomfortable weather rendered clothing the thoroughbreds necessary, which in consequence were not men to such advantage as chey would otherwise have been. The convenience of a covered yard at the Provincial Hotel for show purposes caused a very' great number of spectators to assemble ; but without any attempt at a joke, it may be fairly said the wet weather a«ted as a damper upon the show. There were about thirty entries, Mr Dodson's Cassibelaunus being the centre of attraction, and with just cause, as there has never been a finer animal in ths yard. At the sale some thoroughbreds were offered for sale, with the following results : — Flying Dutchman, bought in at 340 guineas ; Barwon, bought in j Bight Bower, bought in. These three were recently imported from Melbourne by Mr Coembes. Butterfly was sold for 41 guineas, aad Baroness Burdett fetched 35 guineas.
