THE LAWRENCE BRASS BAND.

(To the Editor.) Sib, — On behalf of the members of the Brass Band, who are termed " paupers " by a correspondent in your hut issue, I have to inform you that we do not beg from the public for a musical education. The Lawrence public offered to give us support if we played for their amusement, without desiring us to play and pay to. But the members preferred a more independent course, and they are new paying £3 per annum as a subscription to the „ Band fund, besides paying for private tuition. They .are, however, none the less willing to play for the public when called upon, profiled the public give them a little assistance in obtaining instruments. A large number of those At present in use have been ruiaed through the custodians of them, since the old Band went out of existence, not having taken care of them. The Band has now been placed on a permanent footing. The names of the Committee in charge of the instruments — Messrs. Squires, Quin, Jeffery, and Rowe— are, I think, a sufficient guarantee te the public that they will be taken care of. The disparaging remarks made by your correspondent " Music " in reference to the Band we do not deign to notice. Trusting this explanation of the Band will be sufficient to satisfy the public as to the object for which it was organised— l «n, Ac., ' €X Jbffbby, Hon. Secretary.
