It was also resolved that the Tookey Company, in connection with the United Pumping Association, should borrow £50,000 from the New Zealand Government, and that the Tookey Company should give a mortgage of £15,000 as their proportion of the loan, but no security to be given which would have the effect of creating any liability to the shareholders. Business continues dull. Breadstuffs are a trifle firmer. Wheat, 5s 4d to 6s sd, for prime sorts ; oats, not much dealt in, 4a lid to ss, for feeding. A London telegram, reporting blight* in the hop crop, has caused sales to be made at a considerable advance. Large sales of bottled ale and stout are reported. Brandies remain dull. The latest Mauritius dates report the canes are yielding badly. The first cargo is not expected to leave before the middle of August, ahd as the market is cleared, nothing can come forward for six weeks. Sydney, August 18. The Government have addressed the Imperial authorities advising the annexation of New Guinea. Capt.
