Monaghun and others. — This was a complaint by William Evans, stating that a certificate for an extended claim in favor of Casey (deceased) and Monaghan existed over ground wjlich had been long abandoned, and which was part of an area for which the complainant had. applied for a mining lease. Mr. Henderson appeared for the complainant; Mr. M'Coy for the defendant. The Otago Gold Mining Company had applied for an l, extended claim of the same ground, and after discovering Monaghan' s right had purchased his interest, paying Is. to bind the bargain, the balance to depend on whether Monaghan | had any right that would be useful to them. Monaghan admitted in evidence that he had abandoned the claim for years, and his Worship declared his claim forfeited, and ordered that his certificate should be delivered up for cancellation, but without costs. SaTTBDAY, 6th JXTNE. (Before E. H. Carew, Esq., Warden.) The application of the Otago Gold Mining Company for an extended claim, and of William Evans fora mining lease over the same ground, with the cross objections, came on for hearing. Mr. M'Coy and Mr. Henderson appeared for the parties; It appeared to the Court that each party really wanted something short of what they applied for. It was suggested that the Otago Company should obtain permission to extend their race as they required, and obtain an indemnity from Evans against damages which they might cause (working within their boundary) to the leasehold applied for, and withdraw their objections. ' As this seemed to meet the views of each party, the matter was adjourned for them to arrange it Without pressing for a decision.
