THE AMATEUR DRAUGHTSMAN IN REPLY.

(To tlie Editor.) Sib, — I take it as very unkind of your professional "Ratepayer" making such sarcastic remarks about my being a great genius. Who knows, you know, but that for his observations wounding my too sensitive feelings, the latent spark of Genius might with civic nursing and encouragement have kindled into a blaze of such brilliancy as possibly to have even paled the (at present) shining light of your envious correspondent. I havo to thank Ratepayer for advertising my capabilities, as while he is touting for half crown fees for a Government paid otficer, .he also proclaims the fact that I prepare a similar document for the fee of _one guinea. Surely a professional man can have little to complain of, as by his own showing I am thus although an amateur keeping up the standard of fees, and when at some future time he should take to the profession for a living he will have to thank me for doing so. I take leave of the subject by hazarding a guess that the professional gentleman's own experience of bridge building is confined to the pans aslnoram, and possibly he never mastered that. — I am &c., L. C. Holmes.
