ML. HOLLOWAY IN TUAPEKA.
Mr. Holloway arrived in Lawrence from Roxburgh on Wednesday evening, when he was met in .the Commercial Hotel by a large number of the residents, representing varied interests. After explaining the object of his visit, those present, in a conversational manner, supplied him with- much valuable information. On Thursday morning Mr. Holloway visitrd the Hospital, the Athenaenm, and the Grammar School. In the afternoon, accompanied by the Mayor and others, he visited the Black Horse Brewery at Wetherstones, and the gold mining claims at the Blue Spur. The process of extracting /gold from the cement was shown and explained to him by Mr. Ralston, of the Great Extended Company. Yesterday, accompanied by fch« Mayor and others he inspected the block of land on Mr. Smith'e run about to be thrown open on the deferred
payment system ; after which Cr. Walker drove bim to Greenfield Station, from which place he returned the same evening. Mr. Holloway is evidently determined not to allow the grass to grow under his feet, every hour of the day being occupied by him most assiduously. From'severaL-conversations w» have had wibb Mr. Holloway, we have formed a very decided opinion that he is the right man in the right place, and that tbe Agricultural Laborers' Union in England will havereason to be proud of the choice they mad» when they sent bim on bis present mission. We feel confident he will convey with him to his friends at home a fair and unbiased opinion of New Zealand as a field for emmigration, and we have no doubt also that h& will speak out his mind plainly to- the Provincial Government on what he considers defects in tbe system of waste land administration. We wish bim God speed on bis journey, and. trust that his visit to New Zealand may be productive of good to the class for ■whose benefit he has come, as well ai to our tdopted country.
