Four out of the nine deaths were those of persons admitted in a moribund state. " The servants in connection with the institution have worked entirely to my satisfaction. Your Committee would take this opportunity of returning thanks for this assistance, and trust that this means of help may be continued during the present year. " Since the last annual meeting, great improvements have been made in the laying out of the grounds, your Committee having taken advantage of a gift of trees and shrubs from the Provincial Government for this purpose. Much, however, still remains to be done in this direction, and the Hospital and outbuildings require painting and renovating externally. " Your Committee appealed to the ministers of the various denominations to set apart the collections of one Sunday in the year towards the support of the Hospital] This appeal was partially responded to, and the churches generally have promised us then* early support in the way suggested. " The Chinese residents, although partaking equally with European's in.. the benefits of the Hospital, do not assist us with any subscriptions : and your Committee call your attention to this circumstance in order that some plan may be suggested to^meet it.
