*•' The weather having cleared up, the Tapanui people decided upon finishing the week with another day's racing, to partly compensate them for the drenching rain of the previous day, and to give strangers an opportunity of drying their clothes, which those who had not a change stood badly in need of. A very good day's racing was got through in good time. The events were mostly well contested, the Hurdle Race especially so. Tapanui races will be remembered by those who visited them as a most enjoyable little meeting. No doubt at their next meeting, when it is intended to form a permanent Jockey Club, larger stakeß will be offered, The following | are the particulars of the various events : — J Handicap Hcedie Racb, of £20 ; distance, 2 miles. Mr. A. M'Kay's Dido (Owner) 1 v » Miss Tatton (Brosnan) 2 „ W. Laurie's Don Pedro (Pollock) 3 At the start Miss Tatton got away with the lead, Don Pedro keeping well up. They kept these positions for a mile and a half, all taking the jumps well. Dido then came away at the last hurdle, winning by half a length ; the same distance between Miss Tatton and the Don. Bullock Driver's Race, of £10; mile heats. Mr. R. Matthew's Old Jack (Monaghan) 1 1 Six started. A horse named Greased Lightning came in first both heats, but was disqualified on the ground of not being the property of a bullock driver, Huery Scueey, of £10 ; mile heats. Mr. Harrison's Alander (Wiseman) 11 „ Dwyer's Raven (Monaghan) 2 3 „ „ Rambler <Quin) 3 2 Ten horses started for this event, which was a gift to Alander, who won both heats easily. Hospital Race. Mr. Pollock's Gamecock (Harrison) 1 „ M'Kay's Orphan {Lawson) 2 „ M'Duff's Alice • (Fisen) 3 Two others started* There was a good race between the first three, all finishing within a length of each other. The sum collected for thiß race was £9, which will be handed over to the funds of the Tuapeka Hospital. The winning jockey got the entrance money. 200 Yaedb Foot Race. — J. Davison (scratch), 1; W. Biosnan (7 yds), 2. M'Kay, Templeton, and Harrison also started. Davison won by several yards.
