There were 270 passengers on board'; they were all safely landed on shore. The French war ship Vive proceeds at once from Port Chahnera to bring up the passengers. December 3rd, 9.15 a.m. The Caledoniann games yesterday vrsro attended by about 5000 persons. Scott, tho lad whose performance in the walking match created such astonishment, was disqualified for breaking several times. Very little additional information to report regarding the Surat. The' Vere sailed for the scene of wreck yesterday, having Captain Thompson and Dunedin gentlemen-interested in the ship on board. The Wanganui and Wallabi, from the Bluff, would reach tho Surat before Ihe Verc could arrive. Tlie ship struck on a reef south of Catlins River. •">' ' the passengers were landed in the ship's bouts. The female immigrants by the City o£ Dunedin were all engaged yesterday, at rate* from £35 to ,64.0 per annum. The Superintendent has nominated Mr. Wm. A grandson of Tareha, M.H.R., was burned to death, and a woman was also badly burned, and ia not expected to live. The cricket match Dunedin v. Invercargill, played at tho latter place yesterday, was wou by Dunedin, with two wickets to spare. • The Caledonian Society's sports are to" boresumed to-day.
