ALEXANDERA DISTRICT SCHOOL.
(From, tlie '"Daily Times.) The annual examination of the Alexandra School took place on the 17th, in presence of the School Committee and several of the parents and friends of the pupils. The examination was conducted by Mr. Eeid, aud the several classes acquitted themselves exceedingly well — especially those in the higher branches. The reading of some of the pupils was was remarkably good, and reflects great credit on the teachers. At the close of the examination the pupils were addressed by the Mayor, who distributed the prizes, and the Rev. Mr. Arnot, who axpressed his satisfaction with the proficiency of the various classes. A treat was provided for the children, after the distribution of prizes, ia the shape of cakes, confections, tea, &c. Three cheers were proposed for Mr. Eeid, Miss Brunton, and the School Committee respectively, aud the call was heartily responded to. The children then dispersed in great glee to enjoy their holidays. The first, second, and third prizes in the different classes were awarded according to the number of marks for all branches gained during the session, and the special prizes were awarded for progress made in special branches. The following is the prize list : — EIGHTH CLASS. First Division.— l, William Telford j 2}2 } Thomas Robertson. Second Division. — 1, Annie Paget ; 2, Edward Eyan ; 3, Edward Jones. Special prizes awarded to John Thomson and Alexander Eobertson. SEVENTH CLASS. 1, Jessie Telford ; 2, Margaret Finlay ; 3 James Paget. Special prizes awarded to Sarah Chappie and Mary Buckley. SIXTH CLASS. First Division. — 1, Annie Eobertson; 2> Mary Eobertson ;3, Lewis Cameron. Special prizes awarded to Grace Charnoek and Margaret Ryan. Second Division. — 1, Margaret N. Telford ; 2, William Finlay ; 3, Eichard Blackwell. Special prize, Win. Chappie. piuth class. First Division. — 1, Isabella Telford ; 2, Elizabeth Maokersy ; 3, Susannah Rivers. Seeoud Division. — 1, Isabella Calder ; 2j Catherine Mackersy ; 3, John Brennan. FOURTH CLASS. 1, Annie Bohning ; 2, Catherine Eobertson; 3, Augusta Terry. THIBD CLASS. 1, Robert -Miller Fialay ; 2, Mary Paget ; 3, William Theyers, - SECOND CLASS. 1, George Rivers ; 2, Johannah Mackersy ; 3, Samuel Cameron. PIEST CIASS. 1, James M'Donald ; 2, John Theyers ; 3 Susan E. Morria. Special Prize, Lucy Eyan. Prizes were awarded to Jessie Telford and Margaret Finlay, for industrial work.
