LAWRENCE TOWN COUNCIL.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, — What are our Councillors about flirting- with the public money ? Why not get new plans of a town hall that will come within £2000, and then proceed to- build at once, before- the proper season for the work has passed ? Let nil this narrow-mindedness go to the- winds. The Council appears to me very inconsistent in imagining that they are justified in attempting to patch up any tender that lias been, received, when the amount so far exceeds the "wish of the citizens. Surely, Sir» l)here are other works of equal, if not greater- importance that require the attention, of the Town Council.. I would suggest that four ready reckoners be purchased and presented to the Councillors, referred' to, so that each of them may. bo. enabled to reckon himself up. At present, I»m unable to reconcile their conduct, unless, as I imagine, there is some wire-pulling going on behind the curtain involving^ £ s^ d»— I am, &c, A Citizen.
