Sullivan v. /.. Sf Arthur and R. Mitchell. — Mr. Mouat appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. Wilson for defendants.

Mr. Mouat addressed the Bench on behalf of complainant, w,ho. had purchased a shore in a claim at the Horseshoe Bend, and. who denied liability for debts contracted by the defendants previous to. hip. pweh&siiig thie- share aforesaid. - - „ „ James Sidjivatt was' then exainitied' by Mr. Mouat, and gave evidence as to purchase, and produced sale note, he (complainant) having given £65 for a third share, subject to liabilities, 2000 feet of tijmber, and other articles. M' Arthur told me there was a pump on the claim unpaid for-; but I did not anticipate being asked to. pay any, portion of the cost of that pump, I bought ray interest in- April, and have not received any gold for my share since purchasing. I believe that £64 expenses on the claim, have- been incurred during that time.

Cross-examined by Mr. Mouat, who did not elicit any further particulars. Both counsel then addressed the Bench. James Briggs' application for an extended claim, situate at the Waikaia, was granted. Application of John Francis and David Parker for an extended claim, at Campbells, was granted. Application of George Lancaster and others for an extended claim, at Campbells, was granted. Mr. Mouat appeared for the applicants'. Application of Heron and Nott for a dam, situate at the Fourteen-mile Beach, also alteration of head-race, was granted. James Briggs' application for a tailracc, at the Upper Waikaia, was granted. Application of James Cook for agricultural lease of section 61, block 111., was granted, subject to the application being in accordance with survey. Mr. Mouat appeared for applicant. Some slight addition to the accommodation in the Court-house, Roxburgh, would be of service. One small table has to do duty for the Clerk of the Court, solicitors, and reporters. By economising space, there wqyld be room for all. We reccommend the attention of the proper authorities to this.
