PUBLIC MEETING AT BLUE SPUR.

A public meeting was held in Mr. Grieves' Hotel, on Saturday evening last, which was numerously attended, Mr. Robert Grieve was unanimously called to the chair. The Chairman said that the object of the meeting was to consider the reply of the Secretary for Goldfields to the memorial recently sent respecting the boundary line to be adopted for the depasturing of large cattle in this district. The letter was read to the meeting, from which it was inferred that the Government had determined to lease all that parcel of land known as the Tuapeka Basin, between the Basin and Monros. There lies a range of cold bleak hills — in summer little pasture, and in winter little shelter ; and the general feeling of the meeting was this : That if the Government lease the Basin hind, that they may as well take all. What the mining and other interests require, and what they ought to receive, would be that the original boun> dary be observed, viz., that boundary known as Gardner's track, from the Waipori road to Fentons Saddle. The following resolution was arrived at, moved by Mr. M'Hattie, and seconded by Mr. Moore — " That this meeting regrets that the Government contemplate including that portion of the goldfields commonage known - as the Tuapeka Basin in land about to be leased to runholders for the depasture of sheep, and to curtail the said commonage by the sale of the Basin land, which would be highly injurious to the miners and settlers of the district." Carried unanimously. Moved by Mr, Wm. M'Nickle, aud seconded by Mr. John Hall — " That a deputation be appointed to wait upon the Goldfields Si&Gr&tary oxx We<}xies(3ay- nesefc, mad. suolx deputation to consist of Messrs. IL Grieve, R. Elliot, J. M'Hattie, and W. D. Morrison."
