RESIDENCE AREAS ON GOLDFIELDS.
(To the Editor.) Sill, —We cannot have our cake and eat it. Impulsive people wish for gold, and yet will not comply with the conditions of gold getting. This is not so much a question of goldfields legislation aft of goldfields administration. The legislation on the subject of residence areas and agricultural leases on goldfields should confer a large discretion. The spirit of my opinion on tips subject has been carried out, more or less, in the bill for the- resumption of land for gold mining. Broadly stated, I consider that on a proclaimed goldfield every other idterest should be made to give way to the gold miner, who, in my humble opinion, does infinitely more good to tho public than the public ever does for him. It is manifestly absurd that any individual should be permitted to stand in the way of the development of tlie precious metal. Don't permit people to reside wlicr<kfcailraces are required. The first blunder is the -worst. No area should be granted which would interfere with tailraces. Prevention is better than expensive legal cures. — I am, &c, Bed' Spue.
