Fob Melbourne. — Claud Hamilton, 19th inst. ; Albion, 2-Ath ; Tararua, 27th. A vessel of 1200 tons, the Cardigan Castle, arrived at Lyttelton, on Saturday, with a large number of immigrants. The Lady Agnes, which recently arrived at Port Chalmers from New York, has had some rough weather, which commenced about sth October, when it was blowing a hurricane. Grdcrs were, at 5 p.m. on that day, given to take in the foresail and topsail, and. then had nothing set but closp-recfod topsail, and still blowing a complete hurricane. This continued until Q p.m., when \b gradually moderated. At 7 p.ni, she shipped a heavy sea, which broke the wheel i" pieces and washed away the binnacle, which, together with, the lamp, ■were carried overboard. The sea filled the decks fore and aft, and filled the cabin. Then hove tho ship . to, and continued so until daylight next morning, when they set to work to repair her damage, which consisted principally of the wheel and binnacle, and was accomplished about 4 p.m., and the ship bore away again at 6 p.m. on the 6th October. From the Nuggets, she had headwinds, and arrived as above. She brings a general cargo of American merchandise for Dunedin, and some for Auckland. When in lat. 32i S., long, 20 k W., on the 25th September, she spoke the Bhip Isabella Kerr, of Greenouk, bound to Bombay, on fire. On offering assistance, it was refused, as the captain expected to make the Cape of Good Hope in safety, the fire not being very strong. This was the only ship spoken to on the voyage. , Some idea of what the new schooner which is being built at the port by Messrs. Sutherland and Co. Mill bo like can now be formed, as about one-third of her frames, commencing aft, are up. Lacking the lines of a clipper, she yet promises to be a most substantial seaworthy craft, and a good cargp carrier. All her frames are of broaclleal: timber, tlie keel of a fine stick of kauri.
