Sydney, November 6th. The Governmpnt have carried the new Tariff Bill slightly amended. They intend to appoint the Chief Justice next week. Tho Torres Siraits line have secured the steamers Sun Foo, Flin 1 shire, and Tom Morton. The first mail leaves here in the Christmas week. His Honour Judge ITargreaves has referred to the Crown Law Officer and conduct of three Western newspaper proprietors, wilh a view of punishing them for contempt in referring to the Modridge murder before the trial. The mail steamer took £140,000 in gold home. Brisbane, November llth. ■ Numbers of miners are arriving at George. Town, and some are returning from Charters Towers, frightened at the risk of starvation. A few are determined to reach Falmerston at all risks. The news of their efforts to reach there by the Endeavour River track is is anxiously looked for. Thirty-three deaths have occured on board the immigrant ship ilamboldt, from Humburg, some from scarlatina, others from scurvy. The vessel has been quarantined for one month.
