An luvercargill paper mentions that the scarcity of labour continues to be much felt in the district. The demand for carpenters l especially is very pressing, "the rate of •wages now paid Iso this class of artisans being from 12s. to 15s. per day. Indeed, cases have been heard of where there has been no response to invitations for tenders for erecting new build--ings. The solicitors' bill of costs to which the shareholders in the Pleasant Creek " Jumps" object, is stated by the " Ballarat Courier" to amount to the nice little sum of £2,300. It is intended to have the account taxed. Sheep-shearing will commence at Puketoi Station, Manitojto Plain, about the 25th November.
