WAIKATA FLAT.
(From a Correspondent.) It is a difficult matter for a Correspondent from this quarter to have much to write about; considering the monotonous appearance of everything during the last month ; for between winds, snow, .and rain, our farming operations are much later than they were last year, at this time. The district is, however, in a much more flourishing state than it jwas then, and the number of settlers .are nearly doubled. The old system of single boarded ploughs, is giving way to the double furrow, and the newest implements for agriculture are being introduced. Mr. P. Hill, who secured the, last available 100 acres of the block, is about to commence in an energetic way to put it in working order. Mr. Mdlvor will soon have closed the old roadway, which will cause the surveyed line to be thrown optsn at once. Some outlay will be required for . this purpose, and the sooner it is expended the bette*. ! ' . ; ' ' , I am happy to say thiat 'we have obtained a School reserve, which I trust will soon be occupied. It will prove a very great acquisition to the district, as we are intirely without any place to answer the purpose, either for education or religion. We have also the prospect of being a little better looked after in religious matters, as the Rev. Mr. Morrison intends to holding a monthly service in future. ' Connis and Party have completed their tramway, and got their tunnel claim in working trim, and I believe the yield of gold is to their, satisfaction. Our coal proprietor, Mr. Lynch, has had his water race running full of late, and has been able to uncover a! considerable extent of his coal seam', and from what 1 can learn intends for the future to supply coal at a much oheaper rate. This will be a greal consideration, for" instead^of keeping the fire warm ourselves, we can trust a little more to its comforting glow. '
