CORRESPONDENCE. THE STAFF OF LIFE.
(To the Editor.) Sib,— ln reply to "A Sufferer's" letter in your issue of last week, I can inform him that I believe Sergeant Morton is the luspector of Weights and Measures for the Tuapeka district. The salary pertaining to the office is nil, and security to the extent of £250 is re- j quired for the due fulfilment of the duties, making the billet what I call a " rosy " one. With regard to the weight of a four pound loaf in Lawrence, I cannot inform " A Sufferer ;" but possibly, this being a goldfields township, troy weight is used. However that may be, I think the bakers are often very heavy sufferers by "loafers." — Tours, &c, FOUB-POUNDEB.
