COURT HAVELOCK IN REPLY. (To the Editor.)

Sir, — In your issue of the 26th, I observe a letter signed "George Heath," commenting upon the action Court Ilavelock had taken in putting the notice in your paper, warning him against opening any letters addressed to him as Secretary of Court Havelock. Fam instructed to make the following reply. In the course of his remarks, he states that he handed over the letter to the present Secretary aa soon as I met him. I beg to say that statement is a gro.3s perversion of the truth. The facts are simply as folio wa : — I had occasion to call at Mr. Heath's house one evening, where I spent some time. Ho never mentioned to mo that he had a letter belonging to the Court, until I was just leaving, 'vhen Mrs. Hoath mentioned that there was a letter, and asked her husband if she would give it to me. That, Sir, is the way I received the letter, and not through any exertion on Mr. Heath's part as he would have you to believe. Ho says the Court had other means they should have pursued, viz., by calling upon him to answer the charge before a judical committee of the Court. Now, Sir, Mr. Heath had been an unfinancial member of the Court for some months previous, and had been suspended. The Court deemed it prudent to pursue the course they adopted. I may also state that according to the Dunedin post mark on the envelope, I should have received the letter 10 days sooner than 1 did. By your giving the above a place in your next issue, you will oblige yours, &c, William Cairxs, Secretary of Court Havelock. Havelock, July 7[Having heard both sides of this question, we must decline any further communications on this subject. — Ed. " T T "-I
