AN EXPOSURE.
(To the Editur.)
Sir, — As a specimen of the wajs and means adopted by some unscrupulous persons to get possession of the goldfieids reserve in this district. I may mention that a few days aero a certain persou came to me and asked me to be a party to a very disgraceful piece of conduct. This said party wished to take up a piece of land situated within the goldfieids reserve near Evans Flat, on which I at present have a claim ; and in order to make sure of the application being granted, he wished me to £ive evidence on the day of hearing to the effect that there was no gold on any of the ground applied for, except that particular part which lam at present working. In order thrt I might not be precluded from working the ground, in the event of the application being granted, he said he was willing to draw up an agreement to the effect that he would allow me to work any part of this ground. Now, Sir, I think you will agree with me that it is high time the miners of this district wers bestirring themselves, as if they continue in their present apathetic conduct as to the granting of agricultural leases, mining will soon be a thing of the past. My object in exposing these disgraceful overtures which were made to me is to j put the miners of the district on their i guard. This same party has already had the impudence to fence in about twenty acres of the reserve ; but it appears he is not content with that, and wishes, in order to get more, to get an honest man to perjure himself on his behalf. I hope that this letter will be the means of putting a cheque on any future attempts to alienate the mining reserve of the district. — I am, &c, GnouxD Sluicee. Evans Flat, 24th Juue.
