DUNSTAN.

(From our own Correspondent. ) Electioneering being the general topic, I may as well devote the little I shall say at this time to that head. Before this appears in print, it will be determined who is to be at the head of affairs in the province for another term ; and I believe few in this district either anticipate or desire a change — though rumor says hi 3 opponent is meeting with great support. Next in order comes who is to be our own representative. We at one time thought we were to have throe or four in the field ; but these are now dwindled down to two — our late member, Mr. Shepherd, and Mr. Ilazlott of Clyde. The contest will likely be a keen one. Mr. Shepherd has generally possessed the confidence of the miners, and no doubt many will rally around him now, while hia opponent has the advantage of being a local man, and interested to a large degree in the the prosperity of the district ; but in our small centres of population, there exists a jealousy when each one asks of the other, can any good thing come out of Nazareth. But for all that, we are inclined to think Mr. Shepherd will fare second best. Mr. Ilazlett's Committee, have been busy canvassing the district, and have been promised large support. Mr. Shepherd is also in the district, about Blacks and Drybread, but aa to how he has been received I have not yet hoard. Whatever way the contest ends, we need have little cause to grumble — the one will bo sure to do his beat for the district, and tho other is a rising polifcican, who, whatever may be Ms failings, has always stuck to the miners.
