OUR GRAMMAR SCHOOLS.

In various contemporaries certain extracts and comments upon Mr. Hislop's education report have appeared, all more or less at variance with the truth, and certainly not one of them possesses the virtue of accuracy. We do not care to dwell at any length upon the matter ; but as regards the four Grammar Schools, viz., Port Chalmers, Lawrence, Oamaru, and Tokomairiro, we have, from the report above named, compiled a tabular statement showing the relative proficiency of the four schools. We append this statement for the information of our readers, who will perceive that, taking grammar, arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, our Lawrence School stands a very good second, if not fully equal to the Port Chalmers School — a position which we consider most creditable. In other branches our local school will bear a similar comparison :-
