SOIREE AT BLUE SPUE.
(To the Editor.) Sib, — It was a great disappointment which the friends of the Key. Dr. Copland suffered in consequence of the non-appearance of the rev. gentleman at the Blue Spur soiree, as announced. I hope the following letter (which did not come to hand until the evening of the 3rd inst.), will square matters with the Dr. and his many friends in this district. — I am, &c, yours faithfully, William M'Lelland.
Dunedin, March 31st, 1873. My dear Sir, — I delayed answering Mr. Cameron's invitation to the soiree, from uncertainty as to my ability to come, being very anxious to be present. Circumstances, however, have placed it out of my power, and I write this to you in hope you may receive it to-morrow night, in time to make apology for me to my friends of the Blue Spur, for whom I will cherish the warmest regards. I trust you will be favored with pleasant weather, and have a profitable reunion. Please explain to Mr. Cameron the reason of my seeming neglect. I fully intended and expected to be present. With kindest regards to Mrs. M'Lelland and yourself, — I remain, yours truly, James Copland.
