Mr. Pyke submitted to the meeting two designs for a corporation seal. On the motion of Mr. Arbuckle, seconded by Mr. Ferguson, No. 1 was adopted. The Secretary was instructed to write to Messrs Ferguson and Mitchell, to ascertain the cost of having a die cut similar to the design adopted. The question of stuffing the, birds presented to the institution was again brought forward. It resolved itself into one of cost. Mr. Pyke gave notice that he would move at next meeting, " That the birds be stuffed and placed in a case forthwith." The following accounts were passed for payment, viz., T. Barnet, £1 10s; T. Arthur, L 3 ; F. Meyer, £2 Is 9d ; " Tuapeka Times," £1 lls Gd ; I. Ilarrop, £2 15s 6d. The President, Messrs Abel and Ferguson, were appointed a sub-committee to draw up a code of rules for the institution. Mr. Ferguson gave notice that he would move at next meeting, that an extra room be added to the north-east corner of the building - suited for an ante-room. Mr. Arbuckle proposed, and Mr. Pyke seconded, that the usuil w nter Readings be lesumed on Friday, the 18th April. The motion was carried unanimously. The President, and Mr. Pyke, were appointed to draw up the first programme. The Secretary mentioned that the Athenaeum had been receiving from Mr. Brown, his copy of the " Bruce Herald," as the proprietor of that journal would not supply a free copy to the AthenEeurp, as was the universal rule with the p oprietors of other journals in the colony, and he wished to know if the Committee would pay Mr. Brown, for his copy, or subscribe to the paper. The meeting took a most decided stand in the matter, and would not upon any account subscribe for tho " Herald." Mr. Ferguson said that if they subscribed for the " Bruce Herald," it would only be fair for him to expect they would subscribe for the "Tuapeka Times" if t ley wished it in the reading room. Mr. Ferguson presented the Committee with the skin of a New Zealand bird, which had been sent to him by* Mr. Hugh ClO san of Speargrass Flat. The Secretary was requested to write to Mr. Crossan and acknowledge with thanks the receipt of the skin. A vote of thanks closed the proceed- . ings. I
