WILLIAM HAVES. rriHIS Company ia formed for the purpose of constructing a Water Race to convey water from the Beaumont River to the banks of the Tuapeka River (a distance of about thirty miles). All the way along its course it will command an extensive area of well-known auriferous country. The first light to twenty-four heads of water has been secured by the present proprie tors. A promising quartz reef has been discovered on the line of the race, which will render the property additionally valuable. Upwards of £800 has already been expended on the works. The Race has been levelled throughout, and the General Government has granted the Proprietors a subsidy of £2000 under the Public Works Act, 1870. The Proprietors retain 2000 paid up Shares, 2000 will be offered to the public, and the remaining 2000 will be retained for distribution among the shareholders. The sum of one shilling per share to be paid on application ; 23. 6d. on allotment ; and the remaining 16a. 6d. in calfe periodically as funds may be required ; and no call to exceed 2b. 6d. a month. The Share List will be kept open until Saturday, Mvrch 1, 13 7 3. Immediately after the allotment a special meeting will be held for the purpose of electing Directors, and making other arrangements for the proper management of the Company. THE ground of the Company consists of about 5 acres, adjacent to the Fourteen-mile Beach, through which the reef runs for a distance of 1200 feet. The -reef, so far as it has been prospected, is well defined, and varies in thickness from Bto 22 inches. Several experienced miners have expressed it as their opinion that, from the nature of the ground which the reef traverses, there can be no doubt as to its permanency. There has been a trial crushing of a ton of stone from the reef at the Government Battery, which yielded better than 9 dwts. of gold, though the character of the stone sent could not be considered an average sample, it being largely intermixed with mullock, besides this trial, there has been a few small tests, none of which yielded less than at the rate of 3 ozs. to the ton, and one test, at the Bank of New Zealand, Roxburgh, yielded at the rate of nearly 5 ozs. to the ton. From the situation of the reef, every facility i 3 afforded for working it, as the quartz, to a depth of 400 feet, can be extracted by means of tunnelling, which may be commenced on the reef in the Company's ground at a 400 feet level. There is also a water race, containing an ample supply of water for the working of a battery of any number of stamps up to fifty, on the Company's ground, and this may be either rented in whole or part on the most reasonable terms from the proprietors. It is proposed that, as soon as 1200 sharas are disposed of, to convene a general" meeting of the shareholders, to make the necessary arrangements for the woiking of the Company. JOSEPH NICHOLSONS NEW PATENT DOUBLE SPEED REAPING & MOWING MACHINE. To instantly obtain a change of speed, I supply my New Patent Reaper with an eccentric bush on the axle of the main driving wheel ; and my driving wheel is constructed with two sets of toothed gearing of different diameters for driving the pinion through which the knife-bar receives its motion ; the eccentric bush having a lever attached which works in a quadrant with three perforations in it to receive the catch oil the spring, and, by simply moving the lever to any of those perforations, the machine can be easily thrown into fast speed, slow speed, or out of gear. It has also Levers attached to both sides of the machine, so as to regulate the height required to be cut. ._ The object of this improvement is to obviate the necessity of substituting one pinion for another in order to obtain a change of speed. The great inconvenience and loss of time that arises from this is perfectly well known to all practical farmers. Having succeeded in this long-desired object, I have secured my patent rights all over the world. These Reapers have been largely Bold in Otago for ten years, the yearly increasing demand for them, and the hundreds of testimonials received from all quarters is the best proof of their superiority.
