The annual 'report, -as follows, was received and adopted : — Since the last report of the affairs of the Tuapeka Goldfields Hospital was put- into your hands, there have been several important chauges. Owing to a large reduction in .the amount of subsidy by the Government, your Committee have had to conducr the institution in a more economicel manner- thaii hitherto, and have striven so to do without impairing its- usefulness. The salaries of some of the officers have had to be reduced, and many chronic patients sent either to the Dunedin Hospital or Benevolent Asylum. Owing to the resignation of your late wardsman and ma' ron, a married couple were obtained, and'have given satisfaction in the discharge of iheir duiies. To prevent any extravagance in the vic'uallmg of the "Hospital, the Honorary and Resident Surgeons drew up a dietary scale, which regulates the quality and amount of food issued to each patient. With a view to an increase in the numb i of subscribers, your Committee have thought it advisable to appoint Mr. Hay as a paid' collector, and trust that the appointment will be of seivice to the Hospital funds. Though at one pcriol of the past year ;he funds were in a languishing state that crisis his passed, and you will see by the financial statement that on December 31, 1872, there was £45 Ss. Id. to the credit of the institution.
