OPHIR PROGRESS COMMITTEE

The usual meeting of the above body was held on the 6th inst. All the members were present. The President, Mr. Cheeseman, occupied the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward and inward correspondence was read ; the former being approved, and the latter received. Mr. Fitzgerald was appointed Treasurer ; Messrs. Pitches, Ryan, and the Treasurer were appointed the Fiuance Committee. On the motion of Mr. Pitches, seconded by Mr. Ryan, it was resolved that the Progress Committee should wait upon his Honor the Superintendent and the Goldfields Secretary on their arrival at- Black's, for the purpose of laying before those gentlemen the requirements of the district. The President and S:cretary were requested to draw up a list of the most pressing wants of the locality, to lay before the Superintendent and the G-oldfields Secretary at the proposed interview. It was resolved that the list drawn up by the President aud Secretary should be submitted for approval to a special meeting of the Committee convened for that purpose. It was resolved to ask the Government for a sum of money to repair the upper crossing of the Manuherikia river, which is iv a very dangerous state. A vote of thanks to the chair brought the proceedings to a close.
