WAIPORI NEW YEAR'S SPORTS.
At Waipori on New Year's Day athletic sports were got up. The attendance of spectators was good, and the various events keenly contested. The following is a detailed account of the proceedings : Quoit Match— lst, LI, Maxwell; 2nd, lOs., Manly. Handicap Footrace, 200 yards— lst, LI, Moore ; 2nd, 10s., Godwin. Vaulting— lsfc, LI, Godwin, 7ft. Gin. ; 2nd, 10s., Brougham. Wkestltng, Cornish and Devonshire — Ist, L 2, Keardon; 2nd, LI, Stevens; 3rd, 10s., Dwyer. < Running High Leap— lst, Ll, Quin ; 2nct, lOs., Godwin. CniNAMEN's Footrace — Ist, Ll, Ah Ty; 2nd, 10s., Ah Gwong. Punch's Pony— lst, Ll, Casey; 2nd, 10s., Keardon. Collar and Elbow Wrestling — Ist, L 2, Reardon ; 2nd, Ll, Manly ; 3rd, 10s. Maxwell. Tilting— lst, L 2, Henderson ; 2nd, Ll, Hunt ; 3rd, 10s,, Ritchie. Boy's Race— lst, 10s., Manly; 2nd, 55., Page. Girl's TCace, under 12 years — Ist, 10s., Page ; 2nd, ss. Macledowney. Blindfold Bell Kace — Ist, Ll, Brougham ; 2nd, 10s., Keating. Great praise is due to Mr. Vial for the energy and liberality he displayed in provmins; tKe above first-rate programme. We may mention that those miserable apologies of humanity who erected booths in opposition to Mr. Vial on Boxing Day refrained from putting in an appearance on the above date. The whole affair went off veiy peaceably, and every one acknowledged it to be the best day's sport ever provided on Waipori.
