BLUE SPUR.

(From our Mining Correspondent.) As I took advantage of the Christmas holidays to "Visit an old mate in Dune.lin. it is to be hoped that the want of Hi" usual mining notea from the Spur did not put you to any serious inconve lience. From what I hear, the Christmas and New Year was kept up in the usual jovial style. In fact, so heartily were the New Year's sports enjoyed, that we got a Punch's pony permanently fixed on our principal street, at which exercise a great many of ouroldand young juveniles appear to be ambitious to excel. In mining matters it is much the same as usual. Wehaveplenty of water, and all the claims are at work. On the Gabriels side, the Nelson Co. and Haled and Co. are washing up. The Otago Co. are about firing another blast in their no. 4 claim. The fluming connecting the head race with the claim is also nearly completed, and will be a great advantage t6 that company, as it will bring the water clear of the workings, and consequently avoid, trouble. The Great Extended Co. had a .wash up, and report gives splendid returns. They have been working double shifts for some months. -On the Munro's side, Messrs. Livingston and Co. fired a good shot in their new face the other day, and have started again to wash. Messrs. White and Co. anticipate firing another blast soon. The Tuapeka Water Company have several men employed widening and cleaning their ditch. We had a visit on Saturday from Sir George and Lady Bowen. The notice of their coming did not admit of giving a grand reception, still they were none the less welcome. They visited several of the claims, and saw them in actual operation, which they - could not have done if it had been otherwise.
