BLUE SPUE ANNUAL SPOETS.

A very fair number of spectators assembled on New Year's Day at the Blue Spur, to witness the athletic and other sports, the good folks of that locality annually provide. The attendance would have been much larger had it not been for the exceedingly sultry weather. Only a portion of the programme was got through, the heavy downpour of rain which occurred in the afternoon, driving everybody, including competitors, to seek some friendly shelter. The following are the results of the various events, which did take place: — Quoit Match, 18 yards. First prize, £1 10s. ; second do., 10s.— Cou'ts, 1 ; Mills, 2. Eight entered. Running Hop, Ftep, and Jump. Prize, £I.— Tuckey, 1. Five competed. 200 Yards Foot Kace. First prize, £1 ; second prize, 10s. Tuckey, 1 ; Hall, 2. Another ran. Putting the Stone. First prize, £1 ; second do, 10s. — A. Cormack, 1 ; J. Cormack 2. Four entered. Running Flat Jump. First prize, 15s ; second do, 8s. — Tuckey, 1 ; Carr, 2. Five entr.es. Wrestling (Cornish Style). First prize, £3 ; second do, £1 10s.— Wedlake, 1 : Kitto, 2. Four competed. Shouting at the Running White. Fisst prize, £2 ; second do, £1. Mills, 1 ; White, 2. 22 entered. The committee exerted themselves successfully to promote the comfort and amusement of those present. The office-bearers were at their postß, and fulfilled their various duties in a manner that gave satisfaction to all.
