ROCK AND PILLAR RUSH.

We are indebted to the Commissioner of Police for the following report from Sergeant M'Clusky, dated Naseby, the 19th hut., regarding the above rush. The sergeant, on leaving .Hyde, proceeded about three miles down the west bank of the Taieri River to a place called tbe Three Mile Creek. Be then turned to the right, and ascended a steep spur having a deep gully on either side for about two miles, where it terminated at the head of the right hand gnlly alluded to. Ihis spot he found to be the scene of the rush The diggings are situated on the saddle, and are distant about five miles south-west by west from the Post-office, Hyde. It seems that early in October last two miners prospected the locality, and after various disappointments, struck gold at a depth of about four feet from the surface. For three or four weeks after they earned from twelve to fifteen pounds per man. About this time six [other miners came upom them,' put down a paddock, and got payable gold. .News of this was sent to Hyde, and a rush set in. The entire gully was taken up within a fortnight afterwards by about 200 miners. Many of them failed to get gold, and left. At the present time there are about sixty miners on the range, twentyfive of whom are washing in the gully; the remainder are out in the adjacent gullies prospecting. The ground in the cully is very limited, and those who were lucky enough to secure claims are making an average of from L 6 to L 8 per week. The sinking is from seven to eight fee', and the gold is found in the crevices of a ratten slaty reef. It is expected that the ground will be worked out in a month's time, and unless other ground is discovered meanwhile, the place will be deserted.
