ROXBURGH.

(From our own Correspondent.)

The weather here .is - frightfully warm, however, we have had a few showers this week, which have greatly h,elped pur <Qckat9,9B — i$ fact, a? ;re-

gards agriculture things look pretty well. The chief mining operations are only progressing .slowly, as the river i 9 at present too high, and seems as if she intended to keep yet. There is nothing more I think this week as regards mining. I hear there is great disputing here relative to the races- They have had a meeting here, and at length arrived at the conclusion of having the races on the east side of the river ; which to my idea is a mistake, owing o the great inconvenience of crossing the punt. Certainly the race course is tho best on that side, but that is all there is in its favor. Erom what I hear there are to be races at the Benger Burn aud Coal Creek, on the same day, (Boxing Day). Where the money is coming from for the races, I cannot say, bat I think myself some of them must drop through. However, the Teviot subscriptions seem to look up largely, so I think they will be victorious. Last but not least — in fact, I might say the greatest event of all, is to come off on New Tear's day. That day is to commence with a series of athletic sports and games of all nations. The prizes will be liberal, and I have no doubt will be well contested. In the evening to wind the amusement up, there is to be a concert given by the Roxburgh Glee" Club, and the Roxburgh Colored Minstrel troupe. As I have seen them rehearse, I may without doubt say that they cannot be sur> passed as to their qualification. They bave gone into the enterprise with a good will and spirit, and intend to carry it out in the same manner, if only supported by the public. Taking into consideration that the entertainment is for the benefit of the Roxburgh School, it ought to be well attended. The concert is to take place at the , sehoolhouse.
