TABLE HILL.

(From, our own Correspondent.)

A meeting was held in tho Assembly JJooin of those in favor of having Caledonian sports on Boxing Day, last Saturday evening, nud from the number that attended, there is not the least doubt but the result will be a success. A committee of the most influential residents was appointed to collect subscriptions, and draw up a programme. The committee have set to work, and the subscriptions up to the present surpass all expectations. The programme will be ready some time this week. I understand tbo day's amusement will finish with a ball and supper, to be held in the Assembly Eoom.

In mining matters there is very little worth recording. Dyer & Co. bave got to work below and are raising quartz. They will start crushing as soon as circumstances will permit. Mr. J. Higgins has the machine engaged at present crushing from the Oxford claim, the stone from which is turning out well. He does not intend — I am given to understand — to wash-up until a day or- so before Christmas,. He is driving the. level, which is in now from the shafts over 250 feet, and shows a splendid face of stone, about 9 feet wide. He is also raising, and expects to have a stope of about 50 feet for some distance.

In alluvial mining there is nothing new to relate. There are several parties in the gullies about, but I cannot give nay returns of what they are doing. The earthquake so much spokeu about, was distinctly felt here. It was preceded by a rumbling noise like thunder.

Mr. Dunn of Waitahuna, attended here on last Sunday, and preached to a large congregation in the Assembly Room. I trust he may visit us oftener.
