Macknight and Irvine, and was got by Premier ; dam, Shamrock, by Bolivar ; the Premier by Torybody, out of Baroness, by Leopold ; the Duchess by Cardinal York; Miss Nancy by Beningbrough ; Traveller by Bay Camerton ; dam by Steeltrap ; granddam by Hector. Professor is sire of the far-famed horse Cfroyden, winner of the G'imstehurch Maiden Plate. Professor's stock are unrivalled for color, symmetry, superiority of action, and endurance. Surprise, bred by John Hamilton, Esq., is by that well-known Clydesdale sire, Thane of Clyde, imported to Southland by Hugh M'Lean, Esq. Dam, bred by A. Clerke, Esq., Longford, Tasmania, and imported to this province by the Messrs. Clerke Bros, for breeding purposes on their farm. Surprise is a dark dappled bay, stands 17 hands high, and is now rising six years, lie is a remarkably compact and powerful horse, with immense bone, fine fiat leg, unequalled action, and docile temper. He has proved himself a sure foal getter, and his stock are not surpassed by the progeny of any horse which has ever served in tho Southland district, where he has travelled three years in succession. Surprise took second prize at two, three, and four years old at the Invercargill Annual Show, against all comers. A Paddock, for the accommodation of mares coining from a distance, will be provided, at Moa Flat, free of charge, without responsibility. Greatest care taken.
