The papers consider General Grant's return as President to be certain. Greeley is said to be disgusted. Great political excitement prevails.

A railroad war is impending, and the people are alarmed. The Georgia Railroad has been seized by the Government. A disastrous fire has occurred at Montreal, Canada.

It is estimated that the wheat crop of California will amount to 700,000 tons. 1000 ves-sels are wanted, and tonnage rates have advanced 100 per cent. The Pacific Mail Steamship Co. has purchased the Panama Railroad and all the steamers belonging to the Railroad Co. Laura D. Fair, who some months ago in her first trial was convicted of murder and sentenced to be hanged, was, on her second trial, acquitted by a "know nothing" jury. Intense excitement prevails in San Francisco on the subject, and threats of lynching her have been uttered.

Mr Webb's steamer Dac#ah leaves San Francisco for Auckland on November Gth, and is expected to reach Auckland on December 2nd. She will be followed by the Santiago de Cuba.

Small-pox prevails in (Jtah. In the southern part of the Territory the Indians have been stealing stock and murdering people.

A conspiracy has been discovered in New York among the police aud detectives to fasten the murder of Nathan on one Forresten The reason for the conspiracy was the desire to obtain the reward of 50,000 dols. offered for the conviction of the murderer.
