SHOOTING A CHIEF JUSTICE.
The Qucenslandcr supplies the following details of the shooting at Mr St. Julian, at Fiji :—
Ifc does not seem that the Chief Justice of his Fijian Majesty's dominions is to be allowed to occupy a bed of roses. As an instalment of what may happen should he go on serving out justice in Levuka, we are informed that as his Honor was entering the British < onsulate with the Ministers, a man rushed at him, armed with a revolver and knife, and, mdely laying a hand on his shoulder, ordered him back. The Judge, iuquiring what was meant by this conduct, was immediately assailed by the man, who, rushing at him, rammed the revolver into his ear with such violence that the muzzle lacerated it. The revolver misse"d fire, and the Judge escaped with his life, though he bled much from the laceration of his ear. The Chief Justice threw the man back, when he seized his riile and was about to shoot, but was disarmed by the Consul and Acting Ghief Secretary, who, on the same occasion, had " a cocked revolver presented at his breast."
