LAWRENCE TOWN COUNCIL.
- The usual fortnightly meeting of the Lawrence Town Council was held on Monday evening. Present : the Mayor, and Councillors Hill, Hay, Coverlid and Hayes.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The correspondence was read, and dealt with as follows :- Letter from Ah Poo, requesting permission to construct a covered tail race, under Gabriela Creek bridge Received, and referred to the Public Woi-ks Committee, with power to act. Letter from the Town Clerk, Dunedin,' ottering for sale copies of the Municipal Ordinauce, ' 18G7. Received, and the Town Clerk was directed to procure six copies. Letter from James Hill, applying to lease a municipal section. Keceived and referred to the Reserves Committee. Letter from the seci'otary of the Lawrence Volunteer Fire Brigade, asking permission to use the hose and hydrant. Received and permission granted. Letter from G. Jeffery, asking permission to cut across the footpath, to put in a drain. Received and referred to the . Public Works Committee. Letter from J. Kelly complaining that on account of the fencing across Annan and Pladda-streets, he was unable to get coal or wood delivered at his dwelling. Received and referred to the Public Works Committee.
• The following accounts were rcferrec\ to the Public Works Committee. " Tua ■peka Times," £2 12s 6d ; Mills Dick and Co., £1 8s Gvl ; F. H. M'Coy, £58 16s Od. *Jn answer to Cr. Hay, • The Town Clerk said 'thathe had written to the Government, with reference to the extension of Campbelton-street to Peelstreet; but bad received no reply. The Town Clerk was instructed to communicate again with tlie Government on the subject.
Cr. Hill drew attention to the state of a portion of the J-ieaumont road. The Public Works Committee was directed to take action in the matter.
The Town Clerk was instructed to wribe to the Provincial Government, informing them that if they gave a specific promise to put the Beaumont road in a proper state of repair, the Council would undertake the collection of the local taxes.
Gr. Hay suggested that some action should be taken with reference to tlie old cemetery. The Council then adjourned.
