WASTE LAND BOARD.

At the meeting on the 9th there were present — the Chief Commissioner in tbe chair, Messrs Allan, Duncan, and tfnghes; aud the following business waa transacted :—: — Mr Andrew Thomson's application for protection to prospect for coat between the south head and north end of WaikaVa Harbor was granted for six months, the applicant not to interfere with prior prospectors on the west side of the harbor from G to south heads.

Mr Watson, for John Nelson, applied to have his license to occupy part of Kapiti township extended to seven years. It was agreed to grant a renewal annually for seven years from original date. Constable Hunt was appointed Crown Lands Ranger for the Arrow district.

The opinion of the Executive Council, that it was desirable that no further s,teps be taken in the meantime in connection with the application of the Hon. R. Campbell, was noted,

Mr Longuet's application, to purchase land in Toi-Tois. district was declined, the land being auriferous.

Tho Secretary to the Church of England, at Nasoby, applied to purchase a part of the aaea surveyed for the Union Church there. The decision arrived at was that the Board could not interfere.

The objections of Mr Wilson, solicitor, for E. Charnock, to the granting of a coal lease to Toms and Rus3ell, Alexandra, as it would interfere with an area leased by his client, were noted. The objections of John Anderson, jun., to Mr Tweedie having a pastoral lease of country which he alleges to have discovered on the Forest Range, were read. The writer stated he informed Mr Cutten of the discovery, and was told that no lease could be obtained for the land. The letter was referred to Mr Cntten for confirmation or otherwise of the statement.

Mr W. Brown applied for a lease or license to occapy an acre of unsurveyed land in Kaitangata Town, north of and adjoining the bridge, declined ; the Chief Commissioner ,to write to the Government, suggesting a survey of the township and railway reserve.

D. and J. Malloch applied, with tho consent of the runholdcr, to purchase 52 acres on run 216, for the purpose of erectiug an accommodation hou&e, on the new *osul to Naseby at Kyeburn. Agreed to ; applicant to pay runholdei's compensation. Co.inell and Moodie, for Campbell Thomson, applied to alter the position of the land applied for as section 5. block 8, Waikaka. Agreed.to, if "not interfering with others. Mr Ball, for Logan and Smith, applied for approval of plan of survey of their coal lease, Baunockburu. Plan approved ; cost of coal not to exceed 123 per ton at the pit's mouth.
