STOCK REPORT.
Messrs Weight, Stephenson", and Co. report, for the week ending 28th September, as follows :—: —
Eat cattle.— 46 head were yarded, of which we sold 30 head, medium quality, at from £5 5s to £9, equal to 25s per lOOlbs. GoOdJquality brought 27s 6d to-303. We sold privately 18 head at £8 per head, and 30 head at 27s 6d per lOOlbs. Fat Sheep. — The supply, although nob large, keeps adequate to the demand. 420 merino wethers, middling quality, were penned, and a portion were placed at 14s to 15s each, tho remainder being withdrawn. We quote prime quality half-breds, 4fd per lb ; do merino wethers, 4d to 4£d. We sold privately 500 merino wethers at 4£d per lb ; also (delivered on station) 500 merinos at 3£d per lb, 400 do at 12s 6d each, and 1150 halfbreds at 18s each.
Store Cattle. — The enquiry for well-grown cattle is active; but transactions are limited, as holders are disinclined to sell, at ,the low rate,s offering. We sold Qft steers and heifers, 3 to 5 years,, at ' £4 round. We quote bullocks, .3 to 5 years, £4; mixed sexes, 45Vto 50s. ' Store, Sheep. — We hare buyers for ;nalf-breds and merino wethers, but there are very few sellers, owjng to the close approach of shearing. Horses. — There is still a fair demand for heavy draughts and strong upstanding coach horses. We sold, on Saturday, a team of heavy draughts at from £24 to £48. We quote firstrclass draughts, -£4*5 to £50 ; medium, ditto, £35 to j good strong
hacks and light harness horses, £16 to !£2O;! £20 ; medium , 'ditto, ! £li2 \ to J £14 ; light arid inferior; £4> to £6. "Wool, Ac. — There was a good attendance of buyers at our sales oil Wednesday, and active cotnp/Btition for well-wooled sheep-skins. We sold station skins at 10£p per lb., and 2s lUd to 4s 4d each ; hides 16s 6d. ■ Grain. — We, have no. alteration an our quotations for wheat, ; whjph has ~been in fair demand, fop, shipment, at from ,5s 3d to 5s 4d per bushel, cash. Millers are buying sparingly at present, in anticipation of a' fall in value, but as the stock of good wheat is known to be light, ' we see no cause for any decline' below present : rates. Oats have an enquiry, for shipment, ax from 2s to 2s 2d per bushel for milling satnples, and 2s for feed. Barley isjvery scarce, arid -wanted. -* Malting is now, worth 6s to 6s 6d per bushel, and feed 4s 6d.
