MINING SHARES.

Mr M. W. Hawktcts, sharebroker, Dunedin, reports for the week ending 27th September: —

The market for this description of investment has continued in the increased activity reported last week ; and as the fortnightly returns from the working claims at Carrick Ranges continue favorable, and are likely to be regular, these shares have been enquired for, and have changed hands more freely at satisfactory prices. The reefs in the Shag Valley continue to excite a great deal of attention, and several interests have changed hands at favorable terms. The following are the latest quotations : — Star of the East — sellers, £4< 5s to £5 10s, buyers at £5. Heart of Oak — sellers demand £6 7s 6d to £6 10s, although some have been 'offered at somewhat lower prices. Buyers offer from £5 15s to £6 ; Elizabeths, £4 to £3 2s 6d ; Nil Desperandura, £1 5s to £1 Bs, no buyers. Robert Burns, 5s to 6s. Royal Standards. — The price of this stock is only nominal ; sellers ask from £4 upwards, with no buyers. Sales : Star of the East, £5 2s 6d ; Heart of Oak, £6 ; Elizabeth, £2. Mr W. S. Douglas also reports that he has disposed of several parcels of shares in the Perseverance Company, Shag Valley, at £l 10s, with continued enquiry, Water Race Shares — I have transacted no business in these during the past week.
