THE DUNOLLY NUGGET.

The recent finding of the 538 oz. nngget at Dunolly is thus described by the Express of the 16th July: - Another large nugget was brought into Dunolly on Friday last by a miner named Davey, weighing ia the gross 538 oz., or nearly 45 lb. weight. This prize was found at the Shoots, about three miles from here, in the wall of an old trench that had been cut about nine years ago, when a large number of men were at work in the locality, and an immense amount of gold was being obtained, principally in nuggets varying f rum a few pennyweights up to hundreds of ounces in weight The successive rainfalls hal, with the continuous washing and crumbling away of the roil, brought this handsome little fortune into daylight to be dropped upon by Davey, who was passing by, and seeing what looked like a speck of gold? he applied his pick, and knocked out his longsought pile. A pieco weighing 197 oz. was, at the time above referred to, obtained in close proximity to the piece under notice. The Old Lead, too, has yielded up a nice nest egg of come 50 oz. weight. The nugget has been purchased by Mr Schlemm, who intends to take it with him to Germany, and place it in the Berlin Exhibition. The degree of fineness of the gold is said to exceed 23 carats, and the price paid by Mr Schlemm was L 2.025. The lucky finder sold it to the Bank of Victoria, from which Mr Schlemm bought it.
