THE COURTS. RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, LAWRENCE.
(Before Vincent Pyke, Esq., R.M.) Thursday, 20th June. Millar v. Stewart. — Claim for £13. Adjourned to Wnitahuna. Fitzgerald v. Geeves. — Claim, £4 195., price of one ton of chaff and the value of a whip handle. £3 18s. was paid into court. Mr. Mouat appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. M'Coy for defendant. Plaintiff said he had agreed io supply the defendant with one ton of chaff for £4 10s., which he did, less one and a half cwt., and that he had given the defendant one whip, which he failed to return. Defendant stated that he agreed to purchase from plaintiff a ton of chaff for £4. As to the whip, he knew nothing about it. On the day mentioned he was going to Dnffys Bush with plaintiff. They had a bottle of gin, on which they operated frequently. He had lost his own whip on the occasion, but never had plaintiff's, whip. Judgment was given for the amount paid into court.
