ANNIVERSARY OF COURT PRIDE OF ALEXANDRA, A.O.F.
The anniversary of Court Pride of Alexandra, A.0.F., was celebrated by a ball, which took place in the Town Hall, Alexandra, on the evening of Friday last, the 24th instant. The room was handsomely decorated with evergreens and ferns, tastefully set off with flowers. A noticeable feature of the decorations was two illuminations suspended from the ceiling, displaying the name, the date of the foundation of the Lodge, and the mottos ,of the order. These were made by Mr. Walter Vause, the Postmaster of Alexandra, and certainly reflect great credit upon that gentleman's taste and skill. A number of Chinese lanterns were suspended round the room, which added greatly to the attractive aspect of the scene. The weather being exceedingly stormy - a strong gale blowing, and rain and "sleet falling without intermission during the evening — prevented the attendance of many, who, otherwise would have been present. Despite all drawbacks, however, about 20 couple assembled. What the assemblage lacked in numbers was amply compensated for, however, in enjoyment. At ten o'clock, dancing to the music of an excellent "violin commenced, and once started was kept up with great spirit till six o'clock a.m. Bro. W. Robertson acted as M.C. in his nsnal satisfactory style, and the fact that Mr. P. Calder catered for the refreshment of the assemblage, is sufficient guarantee that no dissatisfaction could exist on that score. Bro. J. Allan provided -the music, and tilled - the arduous duties in a highly creditable style.
