THE CADET FIRING.
The Independent has been furnished with a return of the result of the competition for the cadet prizes. The bulk of the prizes goes to the North Island. Auckland takes L 24; Rangitikei, L 29;2 9; Canterbury and Napier, L 8 10s each ; Hutt, Ll4; Thames, Lll 15s ; Nelson, Ll9 10s; Wellington, L 27 ss; Otago, L 9 iOs ; Marlborough, L 3; and Greytown and Taranaki, the insignificant sums of 15s each. The North Island gets LlO9 10s ; she South, L4O 10s. Otago does not appear in the first or third sets.
