THE PROVINCIAL REVENUE.

The customary balance-sheet which precedes the delivery of the financial statement was laid on the table of the Piovincial Council. It shows a more satisfactory state of things than most persons were led to expect, the principal subject for congratulation being the large reduction of Bank overdraft during the past year. Last year's balance, as against the Province, was L 97.578 18s 9d ; while on March 31, 1872, it stood at L 44,658 10, exclusive of loan liabilities. But for the large reduction in the capitation allowance, the reduction would have been still larger— possibly by L 27.000. We give the estimated and actual revenue : — Estimated. Actual.

The total estimated expenditure for the year was set down as L 287.899 10s 4d ; the actual receipts L 289 ,308 16s 3d.
