Auckland, May 7. Mr Yogel leaves here to-day for Wellington. Six vessels have arrived here with grain and breadstuff's, including the Cleopatra, from Oamaru. The imports so received are —855 sacks of oats, 2310 sacks of wheat, ! 1200 bags of wheat, 100 sacks of flour, 30 i tons of flour, and 105 sacks of bran. I The Auckland Herald says a special messenger from the Maori King to the Governor is on his way to Auckland. The messenger following will be the bearer of a request to the Governor to attend the great Native meeting at Waikato.

Wanganui, May 7. The Grand Jury threw out the bills against M'Coy, charged with murder and man* slaughter.

Shipping — Arrived, Northern Light from Westport, Prosperity from Hokitika, Eleanor and Gleaner from Greymouth. Sailed, Hector for Napier. Sydney. The Martin ministry has resigned. ! There are great reports from the Tambaroora gold mines. A crushing of seventeen tons yielded 5, 630 ounces Bluff, May 11. The Rangatira was off Glenelg at four on the morning of May 4th. SHIPPING.

Arrivals from New Zealand. — Beth Shun, Countess of Kintore, Halcyon ; Mercop ; Otago. Sailed for New Zealand. — Agamemnon, Bulwer, Ironsides, and May Queen. Ten vessels are loading for New Zealand. COMMERCIAL. The exports for February and March show a moderate increase. To New Zealand the increase over the previous month is L 22,300. A supplement to Stables's circular reports three more departures for New Zealand. GENERAL SUMMARY. Chaffers, an attorney, by statutory declarations published infamous details of the early life of Sir Travers and Lady Twiss. Chaffers was prosecuted for libel, and in court he tortured Lady Twiss by putting filthy questions. The libellous statements were disproved, but Lady Twiss suddenly left London, and the case collapsed. Sir Travers has since resigned bis position as Queen's Advocate. The total contributions from the United Kingdon in aid of the Chicago Relief Fund, amounted to L 162,000. It is expected that the Lords will pass the Ballot Bill. The French military expenditure has been reduced by twenty-eight million francs. The protracted visit of Prince Frederick and Count Moltke to Italy alarms^and irritates France. Publicity has been given to the attempt of the Commissioners of Sewers to seize two thousand cans of Australian meat, which has seriously prejudiced sales. In replying to Earl Derby (?), Mr Gladstone said the Ministry would fully maintain its position on the Alabama case. Mr Lowe kasjmade his financial statement. Last year's expenditure was one million less than the money voted, while the estimated expenditure for the coming year was seventyone millions odd. The estimated revenue was [nearly seventy-five millions. He proposed amongst other things to reduce the income tax to L6O, and apply the abatement to incomes of L3GO ; to abolish the tax on warehouses, &c, where rentals are under L2O, retaining the remaining surplus, L 362,000 as a reserve. The National debt has been reduced since 1869 by L 12 ,742,000. Lord Dufferin succeeds Lord Lismore in the Governor-Generalship of Canada. Cambridge won the University Boat Race by one and a-half lengths. The Queen is at Baden-Baden, and is in strict privacy. The Prince and Princess of Wales and family have arrived at Rome. The Prince had a lengthy audience with the Pope, who congratulated him upon his recovery, and expressed his thanks to Queen Victoria for her constant evidences of her sympathy with him, and also praised the religious feeling of the British nation. The Easter Monday review at Brighton is considered a success, notwithstanding the wet weather. By a colliery explosion at Atherton twentyeight persons were killed. The laborers in Warwickshire have struck, and formed a union. The Tiehborne claimant remains at Newgate. He has published a letter appealing to the public for subscriptions to aid his defence, solemnly asserting that he is the real Sir Roger. Mr Disraeli was enthusiastically received at Manchester. Numerous addresses were presented to him by the Conservatives throughout Lancashire. At a monster meeting, Mr Disraeli defended the throne as the source of all blessings which the British enjoy, demonstrated its cheapness, and also spoke in defence of the House of Lords. M. The Omeo left Melbourne on the sth, after waiting twenty-fonr hours for the mail, which arrived before she left. She will sail for Dunedin to-night. The Opposition proposed an amendment, tantamount to a vote of want of confidence, because there was an omission in the address to any reference to public education. The Ministry will probably be defeated, and will ask for dissolution, if the amendment is carried. A boat, believed to be the longboat of the brig Magnet, has been picked np by the Mary Cumming, of Adelaide. Feeney's sentence of death for shooting Marks has been confirmed by the Executive. Iron is dearer. Wellington, May 11. Arrived, the Albion and Tararua. The Albion leaves at 10 p.m., without the outward mail from here for Melbourne, and leaves Nelson on Tuesday. Timaru, May 13. At about 3.30 this morning a fire was discovered by Constable Veitch proceeding from the staircase leading to the billiard-room of the Ship Hotel. He at once raised the alarm. The building was ?oon enveloped in flames, and the fire proceeding right and left, extended from the Gazette office on the one side, to the empty shop used as a spirit store by Messrs Green and Morrison, and the Square and Compass Hotel, on the other. The following are the 'places consumed : - Queen and Morrison's Ship Hotel ; Tt.
