Sic, — I was surprised to see in your issue of the 18th ult. a letter in which the Rev.' Mr. Jones accuses me of giving his speech at the examination of the Alexandra School a wrench (J suppose that's clerical) . What I stated in my letter was perfectly correct — in fact, it contained all the rev. gentleman did say, as lie admits. As he pays, he ought to have said more. In future I would recommend him to commit what he has to. sa.y to paper, and read it to his audience. This course would be doubly useful — Ist The rev. gentleman would have a record of what he did say ; and 2nd, he would not omit saying what he should have said. Mr. Jones states he examined the school at the request of the committee — a statement which, with all due respect to that gentleman, I take leave to question the accuracy of. However, I will make enquiries, and if J am wrong, I will apologise tq Mr. Jones. „ j Asuregajcds Mr. Reid having to« contend with unrersonable opposition, I £jn of opinion that whatever opposi-
