The Tapanui Athletic Sports came off with great success on New Tear's Day, but' the attendance was small. The following are the events :—: — Foot Race, 120 jards.— lst, Thomas Hewitt ; 2nd, James Smith.
Standing High Jump. — Ist, Mooney; 2nd, Hewitt. -
Throwing the Hammer. — lst,Wyan ; 2nd, Ncish.
Vaulting with Pole. — Ist, J. Smith ; 2nd, James Mooney.
Foot Race, 200 yards. — Ist, George Edwards ; 2nd, T. Hewitt.
Running High Jump. — Ist, James Smith ; 2nd, James Mooney.
Hop, Step, and Jump. — Ist, James Smith ; 2nd, James Mooney.
Hurdle Race, 200 yards.— lst, T. Hewitt ; 2nd, G. Edwards. Tilting at the Ring.— lst, M'Coll ; a tie betweet Hewitt and Mooney for 2ud prize, which was run off, Mooney winning by-oue ring.
The sports concluded with boys' races. ._ ,.
